Rust | Orling Architecture (ROA), provides architecture, planning, and interior design services to the public and private sectors in the DMV area and has since its inception in 1979. Our offices are located in scenic Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. We use our historic surroundings as inspiration for our architectural design, whether that be new construction for infill sites, restoration, renovation, or adaptive reuse. Even our contemporary designs incorporate subtle nods to architecture’s foundational principles. We are dedicated to the creation of contextual buildings and environments that integrate with and enhance their surroundings. Further, we strive to design spaces that feel familiar to the people who interact with them. From the casual passersby to the everyday inhabitant, we believe our projects should begin with relatable elements.
You name it, we’ve probably done it. We take great pride in our ability to apply the creative process to a broad selection of building types and conditions. Significantly, the numerous awards for excellence in design we’ve been fortunate to receive over the years recognize our success in different categories, typologies, and scales. Our clients seek us out to tackle unique problems, to get a green light from the jurisdiction, and to communicate directly with knowledgeable and trusted team members.
The small – but mighty – ROA team is comprised of talented individuals with design, graphics, project management, and technical skills who have an average tenure of almost 20 years. Together we are more than the sum of our parts.
We look to everyone to actively contribute to the discourse in the firm.
We are not expected to know everything, but rather to passionately pursue answers, develop new skills and deepen our knowledge.
We strive for excellence in the content, quality, and delivery of our work.
We value individuals who bring the highest standards of professionalism and personal integrity to the way they work. Each person can develop and contribute their skills and knowledge to support the overall health of the firm.
We value the power of interoffice and interdisciplinary teamwork. A positive team culture in which everyone collaborates openly towards common goals is essential.
We have a history of making transformative contributions to the community and bringing new approaches, solutions and processes to our work.
