Founding Principal
John initiated the formation of the company in 1979. The scope of his practice includes all manner of residential, commercial, institutional, recreational, and urban design and land planning. John was born into a family of builders in Alexandria spanning three generations, so he naturally developed an affinity for producing architectural designs that are compatible with their historic contexts. Over his lengthy career, John’s commitment to quality design inspired a loyal client-base. While no longer spending every day at the office, he considers himself fortunate at this stage in his career to have the freedom to choose projects close to his heart. John has firmly embraced his role as mentor and lends his time and considerable expertise to the current principals, staff, and community. When he’s not working at the office John and his wife Mary continue their 40-year project of transforming a 12-acre parcel of environmentally sensitive land on the Potomac river -- known locally as John’s Island -- into a natural habitat which they call home.
