The Strand Center

Alexandria, VA

Project Details:

ROA's first job number and one of its first signature projects: The Strand Center, located in Old Town Alexandria, VA. It has won numerous awards and is one of the most recognizable buildings on the waterfront. The Strand Center was initially controversial as it pushed the area's 50' height limit. Our design approach used multiple distinct facades to break up the building's large scale which allowed it to merge seamlessly into its historic context. This approach would be a driver in creating the Washington Street Urban Guidelines, still in effect today.
