700 N. Washington Street is a mixed use project consisting of 29 apartments and layouts and approximately 6,000 SF of retail. The building is a “concrete podium” structure with three floors above of wood construction. Parking garage serving the residences is below grade. The project is prominently located on Washington Street, the heart of Alexandria’s Old and Historic District, which required approval from local review boards as well as the National Park Service. In order to maintain appropriate massing, the project’s facade is differentiated to look like four separate structures. The residences are EarthCraft certified and the building replaced a deteriorating motel on the site.
